About Us
The South Carolina Shrimper's Association is an organization that represents the state's shrimpers and docks. It represents a unique group of men and women with a long coastal heritage. Because of the cheap foreign imported pond raised shrimp, the price to the boats for the outstanding naturally fed shrimp has been driven so low that we have lost over 75% of our industry.
The South Carolina Shrimper's Association now has a marketing board consisting of all elected officers.
The shrimping season generally runs from May through December. In May we catch the large white row shrimp. Then starting in June our sweet and tasty smaller but delicious brown shrimp are caught. Toward the end of August our white shrimp season begins and last through December. More of our docks and boats are starting to fresh freeze shrimp to have them available in the off season, so be sure and check our web site for an available supply. |
