What the South Carolina Ocean Caught Shrimping Industry wants you to know:

The Vice President of the South Carolina Shrimping Association, Clay Cable, saw the need for the shrimping industry to form a marketing board.  With his leading the Association formed what is now called, The South Carolina Shrimping Association Marketing Board.  The job of this board was to help promote our state’s shrimping crop.  We want to let the public know when and where they can find the South Carolina ocean caught shrimp.   In addition we want to inform the consumer as to why they may want to choose our naturally fed ocean shrimp.

The South Carolina Shrimping Industry represents a unique group of men and women with a long coastal heritage.  Because of the extremely inexpensive foreign imported pond raised shrimp, the price to the boats for the outstanding naturally fed shrimp has been driven so low that we have lost over 75% of our industry.

The South Carolina Shrimpers Association Marketing Board is fighting for our shrimping industry, fighting for our coastal heritage, and fighting for the consumer who wants to continue to be able to have the choice of a naturally healthy and delicious food product grown in our coastal waters.  The alternative to this choice is an imported, pond raised, commercially fed, and tasteless product that has been chemically treated with anitibiotics (some proven to be highly toxic, such as chloramphenical and nitrofurans which are banned in Europe, Japan, Canada, the UK, and the US) as well as steroids for rapid growth.  We find these imported shrimp to be totally unacceptable, and hope you do, too.

Ask your grocer, your retail market, your restaurant if they provide wild SC shrimp!  Don't be shy, you deserve nothing less than the best!    DEMAND WILD SC SHRIMP!!
